OpenAI has launched SearchGPT, a new AI-powered search engine, marking a notable shift in online search methods. This tool is designed to directly answer user queries with real-time web data, streamlining the search process significantly.

The Details:

  • Interactive Responses: SearchGPT generates summarized answers with source attributions, moving beyond traditional search engines that mainly provide links.

  • Testing Phase: The engine is currently in a prototype stage, accessible only to a select group of users for testing and feedback.

  • Partnership with News Outlets: Developed in partnership with news organizations, SearchGPT aims to improve visibility for publishers and offer reliable information.

  • Enhanced Search Technology: This tool introduces a new way of searching the web, potentially challenging major players like Google by prioritizing direct, summarized responses from credible sources.

SearchGPT could redefine web searches, offering a more integrated and user-friendly experience. It focuses on accuracy and efficient information delivery, which might set new standards for how we interact with digital content.

GOOGLE DEEPMIND

Google DeepMind’s AI systems, named AlphaProof and AlphaGeometry 2, made a splash at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) this week. They worked together to tackle six tough math problems and scored enough points to earn what’s similar to a silver medal.

The Details:

  • Impressive Results: The AIs solved four out of six problems, scoring 28 points out of 42, nearly grabbing the gold medal level.

  • Different Ways to Solve: AlphaProof handled algebra and number theory by creating proofs like a mathematician, while AlphaGeometry 2 quickly solved a geometry problem in just 16 seconds using a clever method.

  • Expert’s Take: Prof. Timothy Gowers, a renowned mathematician, praised the AI for doing more than just basic calculations; it showed real intelligence and creativity.

  • Limits and Challenges: Despite their successes, the AI systems couldn’t solve two of the problems and took much longer than human contestants to work through some of the others.

DeepMind’s achievement is a big deal for the future of AI in solving complex problems, not just in math but potentially in other areas like science and education. Even though they’re not ready to replace human mathematicians yet, these AIs are showing a lot of promise.
