Meta is reportedly building an AI-based search engine for its platforms, aiming to lessen reliance on Google and Microsoft’s search services.
The Details:
In-House Search Engine: Meta’s new AI search tool would generate conversational responses on current events via the Meta AI chatbot across Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook.
Current Setup: Currently, Meta’s chatbot relies on Google and Bing to provide updates on topics like news and sports. The new engine aims to replace this third-party dependency..
Content Partnerships: Meta recently partnered with Reuters, allowing its chatbot to use Reuters news articles to deliver accurate, up-to-date responses on global news events.
Rising Competition: Meta joins OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft in the growing AI search market, aiming to provide more conversational, real-time responses directly on its platforms.
Meta’s move to develop its own search engine underscores a strategic shift toward AI autonomy, potentially enhancing user experience and decreasing reliance on competitors. This development signals a new era of integrated, AI-driven search experiences across Meta’s ecosystem.

Gabor Cselle, previously CEO and co-founder of Pebble (a competitor to X), has joined OpenAI to contribute to an undisclosed project. Cselle, a seasoned entrepreneur with experience in mobile tech and AI, shared the news on X, expressing excitement about the role and promising to reveal more in the future.
The Details:
New Role at OpenAI: Cselle started at OpenAI in October but just announced it, saying he’ll share project details “in due time” and is already learning a lot.
Seasoned Entrepreneur: With startups like reMail and Namo Media, both acquired by Google and Twitter respectively, Cselle brings deep experience from roles in major tech firms, including stints at Twitter and Google’s Area 120 incubator.
Pebble’s Evolution: Cselle launched Pebble (initially T2) in 2022 to create a safer social network, attracting a dedicated community. Although it later transformed into a Mastodon instance, it received support from backers like Android’s co-founder, Rich Miner.
Cselle’s deep experience in building consumer tech and AI solutions suggests exciting possibilities for OpenAI’s future projects. His entry into OpenAI at this competitive moment hints at innovative developments that may shape the AI landscape ahead.
