Elon Musk has claimed that a large-scale cyberattack that crippled his platform X (formerly Twitter) originated from Ukraine. But the story quickly turned murky, with a hacker group also stepping in to take credit.

The Details:

Musk said the attack came from IP addresses traced to Ukraine and required “tremendous resources,” hinting at state-level involvement. However, cybersecurity experts warn that IP addresses alone don’t confirm origin.
A pro-Palestinian hacker group, Dark Storm Team, later claimed responsibility. The group, known for targeting pro-Israel entities, added more confusion to the attribution.
The DDoS attack caused major outages across Asia, Europe, and North America, peaking at over 40,000 user reports on Downdetector. X services were unstable throughout the day.
Analysts suspect internal infrastructure issues might also be a factor, especially given past outages under Musk’s leadership and X’s shrinking engineering team.
