AI NEWS

OPENAI

OpenAI recently took action against an Iranian group known as Storm-2035, which was using its ChatGPT service to create and spread content aimed at influencing the U.S. presidential election and other topics.

The Details:

  • This group, active since 2020, was discovered through a report by Microsoft Threat Intelligence, prompting action by OpenAI.

  • Storm-2035 managed 1 Instagram and 12 X (formerly Twitter) accounts, using ChatGPT to craft misleading content, including false claims about censorship.

  • Despite their efforts, the content generated by Storm-2035 did not gain significant traction or lead to meaningful audience engagement.

  • This isn’t new; OpenAI found and banned five similar campaigns just three months ago, highlighting a recurring issue with AI being used for misinformation.

This development highlights the dual-edged nature of AI technology—its potential for misuse in spreading disinformation quickly and the ongoing challenge for platforms like OpenAI to mitigate such risks effectively.

Midjourney, a leader in AI image generation, has updated its website with a new editor that simplifies how users create and modify images. This change aims to enhance the overall user experience.

The Details:

  • The update introduces a “brush” tool that allows for more precise changes to images, replacing the older, less precise tools.

  • The editor now combines several tools, like inpainting and outpaining, into one streamlined interface.

  • The updated editor is available to all users who have created at least 10 images on the platform, accessible via midjourney.com/imagine.

  • Midjourney has also improved how users on its website and Discord can communicate by syncing messages between both platforms.

Midjourney’s latest update makes it easier for users to create and edit AI-generated images. By integrating more tools into a single interface and improving community interactions, Midjourney is focusing on making its platform more user-friendly and collaborative, even as it deals with ongoing legal challenges.
