Wall Street Journal trials AI for article summaries
The Wall Street Journal is testing AI-generated article summaries in a “Key Points” box at the top of stories. These summaries, created by AI and reviewed by editors, aim to provide quick overviews for readers. WSJ is running A/B tests to assess user interest and improve summarization. Similar experiments are happening across the industry, with platforms like Gannett and apps like Particle using AI for article summaries.
Google has launched the Gemini app for iOS globally, allowing users to interact with its AI assistant directly without relying on the Google app or mobile web. The app supports text prompts in 35 languages and real-time conversations in 12 languages through its new Gemini Live feature. Users can also generate images using the Imagen 3 model and access personalized information via extensions for Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Calendar.
AMD slashes 4% of its team
AMD is laying off 4% of its workforce, around 1,000 employees, to focus on key growth opportunities. This follows a mixed Q3 report, where revenue grew but gaming profits fell 69% year-over-year. The tool generates ads from product descriptions and can remix or create multiple ad versions. Getty Images, known for deals with companies like Nvidia, enables safe, commercial use of its content, enhancing TikTok-first ad creation.
