Meta has introduced SAM 2, an advanced AI model designed for real-time image and video segmentation. This latest version marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, incorporating abilities to recognize and track objects in videos efficiently.
The Details:
SAM 2 expands its functionality to videos, not just still images, enabling it to track and recognize moving objects with high accuracy.
The model is 6x faster and more precise than the original SAM, analyzing video at nearly 44 frames per second, which is close to real-time..
This model requires 3x fewer human interactions, streamlining the video editing process significantly.
The introduction of the SA-V dataset, which is substantially larger and more detailed than its predecessors, enhances the model’s training and accuracy.
SAM 2 is available under the Apache 2.0 license, making it free for anyone to use, which encourages widespread adoption and innovation.
SAM 2 is poised to transform video editing, AI-based video generation, and more, with its real-time processing and autonomous capabilities. Whether for creating immersive mixed-reality experiences or improving computer vision in autonomous vehicles, SAM 2 offers precise, efficient, and accessible solutions.

OpenAI is rolling out a new, advanced voice mode for ChatGPT to some ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This feature, shown earlier at the GPT-4o launch, was delayed to improve safety and change its voice to not sound like celebrities.
The Details:
The new voice mode, nicknamed “Sky,” offers upgraded interactivity, including better response to user interruptions and versatile storytelling adaptations.
Set for release in June, the rollout was pushed to July to meet OpenAI’s safety and quality standards, particularly in content detection and refusal.
OpenAI added new filters to block copyrighted content and improved how the AI detects and handles sensitive requests.
After feedback about the AI voice resembling Scarlett Johansson, OpenAI now limits the AI to four custom voices created with voice actors to avoid impersonating real people.
OpenAI’s new voice mode makes ChatGPT conversations more natural and engaging. The focus on safety and responsible AI use highlights OpenAI’s commitment to ethical AI development. This feature will be available to all ChatGPT Plus users this fall.
