📹 YouTube gives creators control over AI

YouTube is giving creators more control over how third-party AI companies can train their models using their content. The new settings in YouTube Studio allow creators to decide who gets access to their videos for AI training.

New Creator Controls:

• Creators can opt in and select specific AI companies (from a list of 18 companies like OpenAI, Meta, Adobe, and Microsoft) to train their models on YouTube content.

• Creators can also allow “All third-party companies” to access their videos or block AI training by default.

Eligibility:

• Available to creators with access to YouTube Studio Content Manager in an admin role. Settings can be changed anytime.

Impact on Third Parties:

• Default setting blocks third-party AI training without creator permission.

• Google will continue to train its own AI on some YouTube content under existing agreements.

Future Developments:

• YouTube is exploring ways for authorized companies to directly download creator videos, which could enable future monetization opportunities.

Former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji, 26, was found dead in his San Francisco apartment on November 26, with officials ruling it a suicide.
