Hussain Sajwani, the founder of Dubai-based DAMAC Properties, has pledged a $20 billion investment to build data centers across the U.S., aiming to power the next wave of AI and cloud innovation. Announced by President-elect Donald Trump, this ambitious plan promises to boost America’s tech capabilities significantly.

Data centers are planned for Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas, supporting the growing demand for AI and cloud technologies.
Sajwani views this as the beginning of a broader U.S. expansion. “We’ve waited years for this opportunity,” he said, hinting that the investment could exceed the $20 billion mark.
Some are skeptical, recalling Foxconn’s $10 billion Wisconsin project that fell short of its promises. Sajwani’s plan faces similar scrutiny, but the stakes are higher with AI’s growing importance.
Trump has called for reducing bureaucratic hurdles to support U.S. tech infrastructure. Leaders like OpenAI’s Sam Altman echo this, emphasizing the need for easier pathways to build critical systems.

Anthropic, OpenAI’s ambitious rival, is reportedly in talks to raise $2 billion, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. If the deal goes through, Anthropic would hit a $60 billion valuation, making it one of the top five most valuable U.S. startups alongside SpaceX, Stripe, and OpenAI.

This funding would bring Anthropic’s total raised to $15.7 billion, keeping pace with the massive investments needed to build and scale AI technologies. For context, OpenAI raised $6.6 billion last October, and Elon Musk’s xAI secured $6 billion in November.
