Google.org, the charitable arm of Google, has unveiled a new initiative designed to boost nonprofit innovation using generative AI. The Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI program will support nonprofits with a total of $20 million in grants, starting with 21 organizations including Quill.org and the World Bank
The Details:
Diverse Beneficiaries: Among the selected are Quill.org, developing AI tools for student writing feedback, and the World Bank, aiming to enhance accessibility to development research with a generative AI app.
Holistic Support: Beyond financial backing, the six-month accelerator offers technical training, mentorship, and an AI coach to guide nonprofits through their development journey.
Direct Collaboration: Selected nonprofits such as Tarjimly, Benefits Data Trust, and mRelief will work directly with Google employees to develop and deploy AI tools aimed at language translation for refugees, caseworker assistance, and streamlining SNAP benefit applications, respectively.
The Google.org initiative acknowledges the transformative impact generative AI can have on the nonprofit sector by improving productivity, creativity, and the efficiency of community services. It addresses the challenges nonprofits face in adopting AI technology, such as high costs and limited resources, and seeks to empower them to initiate AI-driven social innovations.
