Apple has temporarily paused its AI-powered notification summaries for news and entertainment apps following backlash over misleading alerts. The company is refining the feature and introducing transparency measures in response to user concerns.
The Details:
Feature Suspension: Apple disabled notification summaries in developer previews for iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3 after complaints of inaccuracies. A relaunch will follow once improvements are made.
Incident Trigger: The move follows complaints from the BBC after a summary misrepresented a murder case, leading to misinformation about the suspect.
New Updates: Summaries will now appear in italics, users can disable them for specific apps from the Lock Screen, and a beta label will indicate potential errors.
Future Updates Apple is working on updates to clarify that summaries are generated by Apple Intelligence. A public beta of iOS 18.3 is expected next week, but the full release date is not yet confirmed.
