OPENAI

OpenAI is rolling out a long-term memory upgrade for ChatGPT, allowing it to recall your past conversations ā€” even ones you didnā€™t explicitly ask it to remember. CEO Sam Altman says this aligns with OpenAIā€™s goal to build AI that ā€œgets to know you over your life.ā€

The Details:

  • ChatGPT can now reference past chats using two systems: saved memories (manually stored by users) and ā€œreference chat historyā€ (automatically gathered insights).

  • The update builds on the Memory feature introduced last year, which saved prompts, preferences, and instructions.

  • Available now for $200/month Pro users and rolling out ā€œsoonā€ to $20/month Plus users. Team, Enterprise, and Edu tiers will follow in the coming weeks.

  • Memory is optional ā€” users can turn it off under personalization settings or use temporary chats to avoid storing any data.

  • The feature is not launching in the EU, UK, or other tightly regulated regions due to privacy rules OpenAI has pushed back against.

Why it matters:

OpenAI is doubling down on personalization ā€” and competition. This mirrors similar moves from Googleā€™s Gemini and shows the future of AI assistants lies in long-term memory. But storing conversations (even passively) also raises big privacy flags, especially in parts of the world where AI oversight is stricter.

Google has introduced Firebase Studio, a new cloud-based development environment purpose-built for AI applications. The tool combines AI-powered agents, Firebase tools, and Gemini assistants to help developers rapidly prototype, build, and deploy next-gen apps.

The Details:

  • Firebase Studio merges Project IDX, Genkit, and Gemini into a unified agentic dev environment for rapid app creation.

  • Developers can generate functional prototypes using natural language, sketches, or images ā€” with initial support for Next.js.

  • Gemini-powered agents can edit code, add features (like authentication), or change UI layouts by chatting directly within the IDE.

  • The IDE is based on CodeOSS and includes AI-assisted coding, debugging tools, and terminal access with Firebase integrations.

  • Developers can preview apps via public URLs or QR codes, then deploy with one click using Firebase App Hosting.

Why it matters:

Firebase Studio isnā€™t just another IDE ā€” itā€™s Googleā€™s vision for the future of AI-first app development. By blending agentic workflows with AI collaboration and real-time team features, Google aims to streamline every step of the build process. This move tightens Googleā€™s grip on the AI developer ecosystem ā€” and positions Firebase as the go-to platform for building agent-powered apps.

FLYING TAXI

China has became the first country to officially certify pilotless flying taxis for commercial use ā€” with Ehangā€™s EH216-S vehicles set to launch tourist rides in Guangzhou and Hefei by June.

The Details:

  • Ehang and partner Hefei Heyi Aviation received the first-ever certification from Chinaā€™s Civil Aviation Administration to operate autonomous, human-carrying AAVs.

  • The EH216-S is a fully electric, two-seater drone with 16 propellers, a 130 km/h top speed, and 30 km max range.

  • Commercial operations begin with scenic routes and tourist rides, followed by gradual rollout of air taxi services in cities like Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

  • No helmets or parachutes are needed ā€” the experience aims to be ā€œjust like riding in a car,ā€ with 3-10 minute trips.

  • Chinaā€™s ā€œlow-altitude economyā€ ā€” including flying taxis, drone delivery, and aerial tourism ā€” is expected to hit $205B by 2025.

Why it matters:

While the U.S. is still drafting rules, China is already flying ā€” turning sci-fi into reality. With supportive policies, rapid urbanization, and fierce domestic competition, China has secured an early lead in eVTOLs. Ehangā€™s approval isnā€™t just a milestone for one company ā€” it signals the rise of a new global transportation race.
