Meta’s chief AI scientist Yann LeCun forecasts a major AI shift in 3–5 years, surpassing large language models (LLMs). He highlights LLMs’ limits in reasoning and understanding the physical world, with robotics driving the next leap toward more interactive, environment-aware AI systems.
Anthropic has introduced Citations for its developer API, enabling Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Haiku to provide references to source documents, such as emails. Available on Anthropic’s API and Google’s Vertex AI, the feature helps with summarization, Q&A, and support tasks but comes with additional costs tied to document length.
Perplexity has introduced Perplexity Assistant, now available on Android. This AI agent combines reasoning, search, and apps to perform tasks like booking rides, finding songs, or creating calendar entries. With web access, it can remind you of events, and its multimodal feature allows it to analyze your camera feed or screen for answers. It also maintains context, letting users research restaurants and book tables seamlessly.
Hugging Face has unveiled SmolVLM-256M and SmolVLM-500M, compact AI models that analyze images, videos, and text, optimized for devices with under 1GB RAM. They’re cost-efficient, outperforming larger models like Idefics 80B in benchmarks, though complex reasoning remains a challenge.
Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance is reportedly planning a $20–$30 billion, 3-gigawatt AI data center in Jamnagar, India, outpacing Microsoft’s current 600-megawatt facility.
