🧠 AI godmother Fei-Fei Li builds 3D AI World

Fei-Fei Li, a well-known figure in artificial intelligence, has just raised $230 million for her new venture, World Labs. The startup aims to develop AI technology that can understand and interact with the 3D world around us.

The Details:

• Major Investment: World Labs has attracted significant funding from big names like Andreessen Horowitz, New Enterprise Associates, AMD Ventures, and Nvidia’s NVentures, raising a total of $230 million.

• Focus on 3D Spatial Intelligence: The startup’s goal is to create “large world models” (LWMs) that grasp the complexities of 3D environments. This technology could pave the way for advancements in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and robotics.

• Advanced Model Training: Using a mix of synthetic and real-world data, World Labs plans to develop AI models based on a transformer architecture similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but with unique enhancements to capture the nuances of 3D spaces.

Mistral AI has entered the multimodal AI space with its new model, Pixtral 12B. This advanced model combines language and vision processing, offering capabilities to analyze and interact with images through text prompts.

The Details:

• Image and Text Processing: Pixtral 12B lets users upload images or share image links and ask questions about them using text. It’s designed to analyze and understand pictures along with text prompts.

• Advanced Design: The model has 40 layers and can handle high-resolution images up to 1024x1024. It’s built to process images with a lot of detail, making it more versatile than many other models.

• Special Features: Unlike other models, Pixtral can work with multiple images of different sizes without any extra setup. It’s currently available for download on Hugging Face and GitHub, with plans to add it to Mistral’s web chatbot and API soon.
