AI NEWS

AI GIANTS

A recent investigation by Proof News has revealed that some of the biggest AI companies, including Anthropic, Nvidia, Apple, and Salesforce, have used thousands of YouTube videos to train AI systems without permission.

The Details:

  • The investigation uncovered that subtitles from over 173,536 YouTube videos across 48,000 channels were utilized to train AI models.

  • Educational content from Khan Academy, MIT, Harvard, and popular shows like “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” were among the data used.

  • Many content creators, including well-known YouTubers like MrBeast and PewDiePie, were unaware that their content was being used, raising issues about consent and compensation.

The use of YouTube video data by AI companies highlights a significant ethical dilemma in the tech industry regarding data usage and copyright laws. This practice poses questions about the balance between technological advancement and creators’ rights, underscoring the need for clearer regulations and more transparent practices by AI firms.

YOUTUBE

YouTube Music is enhancing its platform with two innovative features aimed at improving song discovery. These include an AI-generated conversational radio and a new tool for identifying songs by sound.

The Details:

  • Available to select Premium users in the U.S., this feature allows users to create personalized radio stations by inputting descriptions like “catchy pop choruses” or “upbeat pop anthems.

  • Similar to Shazam, but with the added ability to recognize songs by singing, humming, or playing snippets. This feature is now rolling out globally to all YouTube Music users on iOS and Android.

  • The conversational radio feature aligns with similar AI-driven playlist generation tools from other music services like Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer.

YouTube Music’s new features signify a significant step forward in music discovery technology, blending AI innovation with user-friendly interfaces to enhance musical engagement. By allowing users to interact more naturally with the platform—whether through voice descriptions or humming a tune—YouTube Music is setting a new standard in how listeners find and enjoy music, potentially reshaping the music streaming landscape.
