The Details:

xAI has acquired X (formerly Twitter) in an all-stock deal, valuing xAI at $80B and X at $33B after adjusting for $12B in debt.
The two companies will now operate under a new holding company called xAI Holdings Corp., enabling tighter integration and easier fundraising.
Musk says the merger will combine “data, models, compute, distribution and talent,” with Grok and other AI tools gaining deeper access to X’s platform and user base.
xAI has rapidly grown since launching in 2023, raising $6B in December and releasing Grok 3, a model that competes with OpenAI and Anthropic on math, coding, and science benchmarks.

🛰️ Amazon Launches Nova Act: A New AI Agent for the Web

Amazon just entered the AI agent race with Nova Act, a browser-controlling AI system built to automate web-based tasks. The company hopes it will give Alexa+ the upgrade it desperately needs.

The Details:

Nova Act, now in research preview, can navigate webpages, fill forms, and perform actions like ordering food or booking reservations.
Nova Act SDK lets developers build agent prototypes — with fine-grained human intervention controls — and is available at nova.amazon.com.
In internal tests, Nova Act outperformed OpenAI’s CUA and Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 on screen interaction (scoring 94% vs. 88% and 90%).
It’s the first public product from Amazon’s AGI lab, led by ex-OpenAI and Covariant founders David Luan and Pieter Abbeel, with a long-term goal of building superintelligent systems.

Why it matters:

AI agents are the next frontier — and Amazon may finally have a chance to catch up. While it’s late to the game, Amazon has reach (via Alexa+) and ambition. Nova Act might be rough now, but it could be the foundation for Amazon’s future AI dominance.

OpenAI is reportedly close to landing a $40B round led by SoftBank—$30B from them and $10B from others like Microsoft. The deal depends on OpenAI shifting fully to a for-profit model by year’s end, with plans to expand AI adoption via a Japan JV and $3B yearly spend from SoftBank.

Scale AI is reportedly seeking a $25B valuation in a new share buyback, over 2x last year’s figure. The move comes as demand for AI surges—while U.S. labor officials investigate the firm’s worker classification practices.
